Dynamic Speculation

This project seeks to create a speculative design that aims to actively engage with the dynamic elements of site to reorientate everyday life to the cyclical movement of site and nature. This project draws on inspiration from artist Cameron Robbins and his use of natural forces to generate art.

Concept

Hydrology

This project will aim to reroute the hydrological connections of Clear Island Waters by bypassing the lock adjacent to site, pushing the water through to the Boobegan Creek, which will then be sealed. The creek was the natural connection to the Nerang River, this will reconnect its process whilst maintaining its linear form.

Animals

The vegetation pallet will use native tee-tree swamp species to attract birds as they proceed on their northerly migration. These are to be accommodated in the public area of site.

Sound

The programming of this site aims to isolate the residents from the overbearing noise of Gooding Drive. Allowing them to focus on the natural sounds that work across site.

Wind

The built form of the apartment towers will serve as wind breakers for the central corridor from the harsh south, south-east and easterly winds. Vegetation massing in between the blocks will act as a funnel to channel the wind onto the building. This will assist with cooling loads in summer. The vegetation massing on the Northern and Western side of the site will invite the wind into the space, as a welcome relief during summer at a comfortable speed.

Flowering

Vegetation blooming periods will be structured in grouping by season. This will create an emphasis on the process of change. Residents will eagerly await the various blooming periods adjacent to their residences, creating a reflection on the natures cyclical processes.

Circulation

The vegetation pallet will use native tee-tree swamp species to attract birds as they proceed on their northerly migration. These are to be accommodated in the public area of site.

Building Heights

The red indicates 12 storey buildings.
Orange indicates 10 storey buildings
Yellow indicates 8 storey buildings
Light Orange indicates 6 storey
Sand indicates 4 storey

Carparking

High density accomodation will be aided by underground carparking that is shared by multiple towers. With Street front parking limited to the immediacy of the towers.

Views

To the West (left of image), views to the hinterland.
To the East, coastal views
To the South, views to Burleigh headland
To the North, views to the Surfers Paradise skyline
